Duties of Office: The County Assessment Office provides a variety of services to the public including:

  • Determine accurate market value estimate of property and assure that similar properties have similar assessments.
  • Oversee the township assessors and review their work in valuing real estate.
  • Maintain tax mapping and property assessment records.
  • Monitor and assist property owners with eligible exemptions.

Due to the legislative changes enacted to protect vulnerable citizens
during the COVID-19 crisis, the Knox County Supervisor of Assessments

will not require individuals already receiving the specified homestead
exemptions to renew their applications for 2020. The office will
automatically install these exemptions for individuals who received them
in 2019.

Any new filings will still be accepted as usual, however mailing or email
is preferable. The following exemptions will not require renewal for 2020:


. PTAX 340-Senior Freeze Exemption

. PTAX 342R-Renewal for Veterans with Disabilities

. PTAX 343R-Renewal for people with Disabilities
