Duties of the Department:
The Knox County Landfill provides a variety of services to the public including:
- Operation of the only landfill in Knox County.
- Maintaining contracts with outside entities for refuse disposal.
- Maintain records and requirements for any required regulating agency.
New Winter Hours for Landfill
Starting January 1, 2024, the Knox County Landfill will institute Winter hours of operation. The Landfill will remain open Monday through Friday from 8:00AM until 3:30PM. The Landfill weekend hours will be from 8:00AM until 11:30AM on every other Saturday. In the event of the Landfill closing due to a Holiday or Winter weather event, the Landfill will be open on the following Saturday. The schedule for 2024 weekend Winter openings are as follows:
