Monday thru Friday 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

 

Payments must be accompanied by detachable portion of tax bill.  Only one bill will be mailed each year containing a detachable stub for each installment.

Make checks payable to “Knox County Collector”. When mailing payments, your cancelled check will be your receipt. 

Postmark is accepted prior to tax sale.

Illinois law provides that all taxes not received or paid by due date shall have penalty added at the rate of 1.5% per month.  This penalty is NOT prorated and becomes effective the first day following each due date.

If you are not responsible for payment of the bill, please forward to new owner or return bill to collector’s office. 

Failure of the taxpayer to receive the bill, shall not affect the validity of any tax, or the liability for the payment of any tax.  35ILCS 200/20-15

If your taxes are paid through a mortgage escrow account it is your responsibility to monitor the tax payments being issued by the bank.

 

PAYMENTS MAY BE MAILED TO OR MADE IN PERSON AT THE KNOX COUNTY TREASURER’S OFFICE.  FOLLOWING ARE OTHER AVAILABLE PAYMENTS OPTIONS:

Drop boxes are located at the curb on the north side of the courthouse on Tompkins Street  and  at the exit of  the Courthouse parking lot.   Payments are collected at 8:30 a.m., Monday – Friday Payments collected at 8:30am will be posted as prior day’s business. Drop box is available through second installment due date.  ***Envelopes are not provided******Checks only***

Payments are also accepted at Knox County banks except Wells Fargo per their request.   For a listing of the banks:  Local Banks

Taxes may be paid by credit or debit card with a fee to the taxpayer of 2.35% or $2.95 minimum;
